Surprise, surprise, those discount Louis Vuitton bags you bought at Stony Point Ultimate Gas and Mart were phonies.
The owners of the shop were not the ones intending to con you, according to police, but rather the owners were conned themselves by a salesman named Gerado H. Mattiacco, 41-years-old, of New Rochelle.
He presented himself as an authentic purveyor of several brands of merchandise, but police say that in reality he was a purveyor of cheap knockoffs.
Stony Point cops have charged Mattiacco with two counts of trademark counterfeiting in the second degree, an E-felony.
Mattiacco had allegedly been selling falsely labeled items including counterfeit pocketbooks, wallets, belts and Major League Baseball apparel to Ultimate Gas and Mart, 81 South Liberty,at the corner of S. Liberty Dr. and Washburns Ln.
It is alleged the defendant sold approx. $2,980 worth of “knock-off” Michael Kors, Luis Vuitton and New York Yankee merchandise over several days. Numerous cases of perfumes, colognes were also seized as a result of the investigation.
The defendant was found in possession of said counterfeit items and was arrested, processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable on Sept. 23, 2014 after posting $300 cash bail.
The Stony Point Police Department was assisted by an authorized representative of Michael Kors, Luis Vuitton and Major League Baseball.
