The Stony Point Police Department has released the details of a violent altercation that took place in the town earlier this month, which involved an unidentified man wielding a baseball bat attacking an oncoming car in self-defense

On August 4, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Stony Point Police Department received several calls reporting a possible domestic dispute in a parking lot on N. Liberty Dr. The officers responded to the location and located three individuals, Luis Sanchez, a 38 year old man from Manhattan, his girlfriend, and a passerby who stopped to assist her.

Officers determined that Sanchez had placed his girlfriend in a headlock and struck her in the head and chest. The passerby, carrying a baseball bat, did observe the assault and attempted to intervene, prompting Sanchez to attempt to run them over. Sanchez ran his vehicle at the passerby three times, narrowly missing him. The passerby swung the baseball bat at the oncoming vehicle in self-defense causing damage to the windshield of the defendant’s vehicle. Officers on scene did obtain several witness statements and video evidence of the incident. The girlfriend was uncooperative and refused medical attention. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Stony Point Police Station for processing. The defendant was arraigned at the Stony Point Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail and will return to court on August 27, 2024, at 1:30 p.m..
